Artificial Intelligence in the Exhibition Industry

It is time for the exhibition industry to be proactive about artificial intelligence.

Artificial Intelligence (AI), is a machine’s ability to perform the cognitive functions we associate with the human mind, such as perceiving, reasoning, learning, interacting with the environment, problem-solving and to a degree, being creative.

As the trade show industry is a “people” business, where networking and one-on-one interaction and communication play a key role, what impact will AI have on our industry, and how can we utilise AI for our benefit while still ensuring the sustainability and longevity of the profession.

Today, the sectors most affected by AI include transportation, construction, healthcare, security, farming, science, finance and insurance, customer service, and manufacturing. AI, in stock trading is on the rise. This can cause a daily disruption as seen in early February 2018 at the New York Stock Exchange
when a massive fall was triggered by algorithms and not human trading. The big question in stock trading is how to control AI so that it does not cause a disruptive chain reaction. With all these industries being affected by AI, it is not hard to imagine that the tradeshow sector may very well share the same fate.
